The Vedic Scriptures

sarvasya cāhaṃ hṛdi sanniviṣṭo mataḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṃ ca | vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyo vedānta kṛd veda-vid eva cāham
“I dwell in the heart of everyone, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. The aim of all the Vedas is to know Me. Verily, I am the author of the Vedānta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.”
— Bhagavad-Gītā 15.15

The following important Vedic scriptures will be presented here in brief:

Caitanya-Bhāgavata

Caitanya-Bhāgavata was composed by Vrindavan Das Thakur, who is considered an incarnation of Srila Vyasadeva. It was composed before Kṛṣṇadasa Kaviraja Goswami wrote Caitanya-Caritamrita. Vrindavan Das Thakur's mother Narayani was a niece of Srivas Thakur, who is one of the four principal consorts of Sri Krishna Caitanya. She spent her childhood in Srivas Thakur's house, where the Lord spent some time performing nightly kirtans with many eminent devotees before He began to publicly perform and preach the yuga-dharma of congregational chanting of the Holy Names of God.

Vrindavan Dasa became Sri Nityananda Prabhu's disciple after the end of Sri Caitanya's pastimes on this planet at the age of twenty. The Caitanya-Bhagavata was later dictated to him in the mind by Nityananda Prabhu, who is non different from Sri Balarama and from Anantadeva, who with his many heads constantly praises the glory of Krishna and serves him in various ways. That is, the transcendental activities appeared in his mind by Nityananda's grace and he wrote them down.

In the Caitanya-Bhagavata, many of the pastimes of Śrī Caitanya and His associates - especially the early transcendental activities before Caitanya Mahāprabhu's time in Jagannatha Puri - are described in greater detail than in the Caitanya-Caritāmṛta. On the other hand, philosophical explanations and the description of Śrī Caitanya's late transcendental pastimes are given more space in the Caitanya-caritāmṛta.

“Talks about Śrī Caitanya's transcendental pastimes are the purest form of divine nectar. May this nectar flood the minds of all living beings. Those who hear these narrations with joy in their hearts are sure to see the beautiful face of Śrī Caitanya directly.

Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya and Śrī Nityananda are my life and soul. I, Vrindavan dasa, offer this song to Their lotus feet.”
— Caitanya-Bhagavata, Madhya-Khanda, Kap. 23, Verse 534–536
