The Sanskrit Alphabet

The script of the Sanskrit language is called Devanagari. In the tables below you see the devanagari glyphs of the sanskrit alphabet with their respective IAST (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration) equivalents.

Vowels (svara)

In the first line you see the devanagari signs for the vowels. The dotted circles represent the consonants. Examples are अमृत (amṛta), राम (Rāma), शिव (Śiva), केशव (Keśava), गोपिनाथ (Gopinātha), गौतम (Gautama)
